About Bali Street Paws
Hi, I’m Alana.
I moved to Bali to study at Green School, a place where students are encouraged to create projects that make a real difference in the world.
I’ve always loved animals, but living in Bali made me realise how many dogs live on the streets without proper care. Many suffer from skin infections, parasites and mange — conditions that are often left untreated and can quickly worsen in Bali’s warm and humid environment. Others reproduce uncontrollably, creating more puppies that struggle to survive.
I knew I wanted to do something that could help.
That’s how Bali Street Paws began.
The Purpose Behind My Passion

Helping Street Dogs
Bali Street Paws focuses on practical actions that improve the lives of street dogs in Bali through sterilisation and medical treatment.

Working With the Community
Real change happens when communities work together. This project supports local residents and organisations who care for dogs in their neighbourhoods.

A Student-Led Initiative
Bali Street Paws began as my Green School project — an opportunity to turn my love for animals into real action. Through fundraising, events and community support, the goal is to help improve the lives of Bali’s street dogs and create positive change.
The purpose of life is not to be happy -- but to matter, to be productive, to be useful, to have it make some difference that you lived at all.
How It All Started
Before moving to Bali, I had visited the island many times during holidays. But living here full time allowed me to see more clearly the reality many street dogs face.
It became impossible to ignore.
Many street dogs live without access to basic veterinary care. As a result, conditions such as mange, parasites and skin infections can become severe even though they are relatively simple to treat. At the same time, uncontrolled breeding means more puppies are born into difficult conditions.
Instead of trying to help one dog at a time, I wanted to focus on solutions that could create lasting change.
So I started Bali Street Paws.
The project focuses on three key actions:
• sterilisation
• treatment for skin diseases and infections
• community street campaigns
Our First Goal: 400 Sterilisations
As part of my Green School project, I set a goal of reaching 400 sterilisations within 15 months.
Each sterilisation helps prevent hundreds of future births and reduces the number of dogs living in difficult conditions on the streets.
This is just the beginning — the hope is that the project continues to grow and help even more dogs in the future.
A Community Effort
Bali Street Paws is not something I do alone.
This project is possible thanks to the support of many people and organisations, including:
• the Green School community
• volunteers and friends
• local animal welfare organisations such as BAWA (Bali Animal Welfare Association)
• supporters from Bali and around the world
By working together, we can create real change for street dogs and the communities that live alongside them.
Turning Creativity Into Action
I also love drawing, and part of the project involves creating Bali Street Paws illustrations that are printed on T-shirts and merchandise.
These designs help raise funds for sterilisation campaigns and treatments.
Events, markets and school initiatives are another way we raise support and awareness for the project.
Join the Mission
Every treatment, every sterilisation and every street campaign brings us closer to a healthier future for Bali’s dogs.
Together we can make a real difference — one street at a time.
