Learning from John

March 2, 2026

One of the most important parts of starting Bali Street Paws has been learning from the people who are already out there, quietly doing the work.

A few days ago, I spent the day with John, a man who uses his own free time to feed and care for street dogs in Bali. No big organisation, no funding, no attention. He just shows up, again and again, because he cares.

Being with him taught me so much. He showed me how to hide medicine inside food, how to use coconut oil to soothe irritated skin, and how to approach a dog that is scared or in pain without making things worse.

It might sound like a small thing, but for me, this kind of learning is everything. Bali Street Paws is not just about ideas. It has to be built on real understanding, real care, and real experience.

Spending time with people like John reminds me that this project has to stay grounded in what street dogs actually need, not just what looks good from the outside.

I’m really grateful I got to learn from him.
